Bully Free Week

This week is bully free week. We defined a bully as someone who continually does mean things to other people. We know that if it is a one off behaviour, it is unkind but not bullying.

We did a number of activities to reinforce kindness. One activity was a compliment circle. Each student had to give one compliment to someone else in the class. Another activity was a kindness game. Students had 12 challenges to complete over the week. The final activity was a friendship ingredients. We got this idea after watching Enemy Pie.   Here are some of our ingredients posters.

ASB Get Wise

Yesterday we had Jeremy from Get Wise ASB come in and talk to us about financial literacy. He demonstrated how it is better to save money in a bank account rather than in a money box because the bank gives you interest. Some of his key messages were, “spend some on you, save some too”, your never to young to start saving, buy what you need v’s what you want.

Students need to be 13 years old to open up their own bank account so in order for Room 17 students to get a bank account, parents need to open an account for them.

You may see your child wearing an ASB wrist band. They have key messages written on them to encourage children to save.

Golf Term 2

This term as part of our PE programme we have Stu (a ex NZ golf representative) teaching us golf. Last week we learnt how to see up when we were hitting the ball of the tee. Yesterday we learnt how to putt. We are having heaps of fun learning these new skills and are looking forward to the rest of the lessons.

Uniform Reminder

Dear Parents/Caregivers

The weather is starting to get colder and I have noticed that students are wearing footless tights under their shorts or skivvies under their school t-shirt. Please remember that items that are worn under students school uniform need to be navy blue.

Kind regards,
Michelle Slee (Tui Team Leader)

Term 1 Diversity Shared Lunch

Our Term 1 Inquiry focus was diversity. We looked at similarities and differences between cultures and countries. We learned about our own cultures and then we explored how NZ is diverse as a result of different cultures living here. We finished this inquiry by celebrating how different cultures eat different food and by dressing up to represent our cultures. Here are photos of our diversity shared lunch.

Tui Circus Challenge

Today (3rd of May) we were lucky enough to have Clinton come into school and share a Circus performance with us and then each class in the Tui team had a turn attending a circus workshop where we learnt the following tricks: Juggling with 3 objects, spinning a plate, spinning fire sticks and building a human pyramid. We all found things challenging but learnt to persevere and keep practising. Here are some photos of our experience.
